Hustle Review: Cash In On Old Cell Phones

What do you do with your old cell phones? if they are new enough, Da Hustler tries to sell them online on eBay. If not, then I turn to craigslist. If I still have no dice then oftentimes I’ll just hang on to it by sticking it in some remote corner, file cabinet or in the back of a drawer. However, I just found out that there is a company that will pay you for your old cell phones!

Cell for Cash allows you to sell a cell phone to CellForCash.com and get paid! The prices for the phones vary, and just browsing through some of the listings, I would get anywhere from a couple of dollars to over $400 if I were to sell my old cell phone. The brand new phone that I won from the T-Mobile promotion only goes for $4! With prices like that, some may wonder “why bother at all?”

Think like a true hustler… to make some money!

I didn’t write this up as an actual hustle, but if you wanted to put the work in this could turn into one! Just think…place an ad for people to donate their old phones for you to disposed of them properly. Gather up all the phones, check the site to see how much you could get, then send the phones away! There is also a donation link if you want to donate your phones to a charity of your choice. I’d use this for the phones that either have no value or maybe when it gets close to tax time and you want more deductions.

CellForCash.com has a pretty good business model from what I can see, and using the service can buy you lunch or a day…or 365 days if you work it right!

Hustle Review – What’s the Deal With Wirefly?

From time to time, Da Hustler will review new products and services on your behalf, to see if they measure up to be considered legitimate, or if they are just another fake hustle. Today I will be reviewing the site Wirefly.

What is Wirefly? It’s a site where you can view and buy wireless phones and plans. They also do comparisons between the top wireless companies so that you can get the best deal. According to themselves, they are the number one seller of wireless phones and plans, but I don’t see any awards or mentions by Consumer Reports, J.D. Power & Associates, etc., so for now I will just take them at their word.

As you know, Da Hustler loves a deal, so being able to get the best price on one site is very cool to me. However, it will take some time to get used to the interface because it is very busy (or am I getting old?). There is so much information, but it almost seems like it is crammed on one page at a time. Despite this, Da Hustler uses sites like these to make sure he is paying the lowest price possible for anything. In fact, before I won the T-Mobile promotion last month, I HATED my wireless phone bill, and wanted to do anything to cut it down. I wasn’t expecting free, but you know I didn’t pass it up either!

The only problem I see with Wirefly is that it doesn’t have all of the complete and up-to-date information displayed on the site. When looking up prices for plans at T-Mobile, the lowest one I saw was for $29.99, but on T-Mobile’s site you can find a plan intended for kids for $19.99 (50 anytime minutes, free weekends, etc). The best way to approach these sites is to compare them against the original vendor, then see which plans fit your needs. Also, go into the store to actually test the phones, then hop online to see who has the best deal. It’s a litle bit of work, but money saved is money earned!

Wirefly is owned by a company named InPhonic, and they just recently struck a deal with Brightstar to streamline their processes. InPhonic and Brightstar claim that this new alliance will help customers, but reading the press release, all I could see is fatter pockets for the owners. so that remains to be seen. If they are able to do more of what they are doing now, and maybe even get exclusive deals with the major players in the cellular phone industry that would lower prices and plans even further, then that’s some news I wouldn’t mind reading!

Mind Hustle: Double Take Magazine

This hustle is really close to my heart, because it deals with the education of the Black Man. Now, I rarely will directly plug other websites here, unless I believe they are of an extraordinary caliber.

This one qualifies.

Double Take Magazine is a site that features Black Men in a positive light (for a change), and it is NOT primarily about music, sports or entertainment (although those features can be found there). It’s a uplifting site by Black men, and for Black men. I get so tired of turning on the tv and seeing negative images and stereotypes about this segment of the population, when there are clearly many instances of good deeds that go unnoticed day in and day out. Double Take highlights men who do good things in the community, and has informative articles that can really open your mind to things that you may not have know about before. It’s growing, so be sure to visit and support this great site, because resources like this are few and far between.
